Directory of Internet Psychotherapists

This is a comprehensive, independent consumer guide to the psychotherapists and counselors who provide services over the Internet. This guide is compiled by consumers, for consumers.

To choose a therapist, click on the service you want:

  1. E-therapy private practices - individual therapists who work with you in an ongoing series of in-depth e-mail or chat sessions.

  2. E-therapy clinics - large sites where many therapists are available, and offering a variety of features.

  3. Mental health advice - individual therapists who answer a one-time inquiry about any mental-health related topic or concern.

  4. Specialists - therapists who specialize in a particular topic.
(includes Medication & Psychopharmacology, Relationships & Sexuality, Eating Disorders, Hypnotherapy, Police Stress)

Not sure which is right for you? Heres a quick explanation.

Before you consult a counselor online, there are some important things you need to know. Click here for more.

A consumer survey was conducted on people's experiences with online therapy, that you may want to consult.

This directory gives you data about each therapists credentials, fees, payment options, services offered, and other relevant facts. But you must actually visit the therapists site for complete information about their services.

All entries are up-to-date as of August 2007.

These additional lists are available:
  • Caveat - therapists whose credentials are uncertain; or with unacceptable security.
  • Closed - therapists who are no longer in business, though their sites are still online; and sites I found which seem to be dead.
  • Gone - former sites which have vanished. Let us know if you find them.
Consult the introduction for explanations of the information provided here.

A NOTE ABOUT THE S:

The ratings should not be considered a rating of the therapists themselves, or the quality of their counsel. The stars are a rating of the website, not the therapist. An excellent therapist could have a lousy website; likewise, a lousy therapist could have an excellent website. The stars reflect consumer-safety issues including disclosure of information, security, etc.
(Click here for more information about star ratings)

Remember: It is not possible for me to rate therapists, because I cannot predict which therapist will be best for you. The interaction between you and your therapist is highly individual. Just because someone is good for me, wouldnt necessarily mean they are good for you. I encourage you to visit the websites yourself and form your own impression about the therapist. I am optimistic enough to believe that you are a responsible, intelligent consumer, capable of forming your own valid opinion, if given adequate information.
