Any reading about the 17th century in England will help you understand our emigrant ancestor and his times, especially those books which describe the growth of the textile industry in southeast Lancashire. A small booklet, “The Cotton Industry” by Chris Aspen, was especially helpful to me, describing the industry, its connection with America, and its effect on the world. It can be ordered from its publisher: Shire Publications Ltd., Cromwell House, Church Street, Princes Risborough, Buckinghamshire HP27 9AA for £2.25 (not including shipping).

Books about Ainsworth Village

The little Parish Church in Ainsworth has copies of a small booklet “A History of Ainsworth Parish Church.” A more thorough book was written by the former vicar, The Rev’d K.P. Bullock and called “The Story of Cockey Moor.” This book, which was essentially a private publication, may not still be in print. I do not know where copies could be obtained. Any history of the village of Ainsworth is a history of the Ainsworth family, at least in part. I was able to glance through this book in the library but could not take a copy out nor photocopy it. Father Bullock is retired but still living.

The Ainsworth Bleach Works were in neighboring Bolton and this collection has a large amount of information about that branch of the Ainsworth family.
